Roger Garrett has been creating custom, handmade clarinet and bass clarinet mouthpieces for over 25 years. The mouthpieces begin as blanks, manufactured at a US plant that has been in business for over 75 years, and they each adapted to specific tolerances and measurements by hand. Each mouthpiece is play tested, adjusted if necessary, and then play tested again by Roger Garrett. As Principal Clarinetist in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Garrett understands the requirements of a good mouthpiece, and for that reason, all mouthpieces must meet the criteria necessary for critical performance before they are shipped. Some mouthpiece designers play test blanks and adjust as necessary until they are playable and sound good. Those made by Roger Garrett are produced to specifications first and then play-tested. This means that the inside of the mouthpiece - baffle, bore and sidewalls, the tip and side rails, and (finally) the facing (table, tip opening, and curve schedule) are completed in a specific order and the mouthpiece is stamped and buffed prior to play testing. All adjustments following the play test are done with the specifications for that particular model to be kept status quo. Customers include professional clarinetists and bass clarinetists and university professors world-wide.
