Wooden straight mutes for Trumpet players. These are two stage/barrel mutes created from solid blocks of wood in two parts on the wood lathe. These have gone through several revisions, and while they have a resemblance to other wood mutes on the market, the dimensions inside and out are different than other manufacturers.
Mutes made from Cedar or Redwood (interchangeable - whatever lumber is available), Walnut, Cherry, and African Mahogany with various contrasting wood caps have been tested by trumpet players across the nation. Most recently, they were play tested by top trumpet players at the Adam Trumpet Festival that was held in Ellensburg, Washington in June of 2024 and received very positive responses from the testers. Caps are made from hardwoods such as Maple, Cherry, Red or White Oak, Walnut, and Hickory. For an additional charge, exotic woods such as Wenge, Paduk, Zebrawood, and Rosewood (when available) can be used.
Notable Qualities;
Unlike other wood mutes on the market that are made with veneers or segmented staves of wood, these mutes are turned from high quality, solid wood blocks with contrasting hardwood caps. The result is a very light and attractive piece of artwork. More waste is generated when turning from a solid block, but the risk of a glue joint failure from segmented staves is always a concern. That concern does not exist with a barrel turned from a solid block.
Two Caps Styles - different logos (see pictures) - one for the consummate professional and one for trumpet players with an attitude!
High quality corks that interact with the trumpet bell adhered to a super durable closed cell foam that allows for flexibility in grip and fit.
Two finishes - a friction finish applied on the lathe, inside and out. The final finish is applied to the outside of the mute it is completed and before corks are added with two coats of a harder, durable, semi-gloss spray lacquer.
Warm, rich, resonate sound. Unlike metal or plastic mutes, the resonance of these mutes is high without loss over higher overtones.
Non-adjusting pitch. Nearly all players who tested these mutes reported that they play in tune without having to pull the tuning slide. Moreover, the pitch remains constant from the top of the range to the bottom of the range.
