Double Baton cases are designed to hold two batons end to end. The outside dimensions of the case are approximately 17 inches long and 2 3/4 inches deep. The depth, width. and height dimensions of the handle wells allow for up to a 3/4 inch thick handle that is no longer than 2 inches. The shaft of the baton can be no thicker than 3/16 of an inch (most are 1/8 -3/16 at the thickest point). The total length baton this case can accommodate is 15 1/4 inches. Any larger baton sizes can be accommodated with a special order by contacting me. These cases are created with a CNC machine with any wood that is available. The handle wells are flocked to help protect the finish on the handles. While a magnetic latch can be added, the more stable and adjustable standard hook clasp is recommended and is standard. Made with a beautiful nickle plate, the hook clasp is attractive and easy to use. Transportation in a brief case or score attache case is possible, but, depending on the wood chosen, the wood case is fairly heavy and is best utilized as a desk top or display case.
Engraving on the top lid, bottom lid, or inside of the top lid is also available for a separate charge for each engraved item. Engraving can include names, slogans, and logos. Multiple choices of fonts and sizes of fonts are available for names and text. Suitable, high resolution logos in jpeg or vector formats are required to produce a clear and manageable fascimile of the logo. Cost of logo engraving is based on time spent editing the provided logo.
The pictured double cases are made from Walnut with a spalted maple insert, and from cocobolo with requested engravings from the customer. For the spalted maple case, the customer declined a black lacquer fill of the engraved name, so the spalted maple shows a carving that includes black and non-black sections caused by the random spalting of the wood. The cocobolo case engravings included a name on the outside lid but also the schools that the customer attended via logos on the inside lid. The pictured double lidded baton case commissioned by members of the University of Michigan 1983-84 Symphony Band for H. Robert Reynolds was made with a walnut body. The inside of the case is shown to provide an example of the possibility of engraving of a logo and text.
Any exotic wood orders (e.g. cocobolo, rosewood, zebrawood, purpleheart, etc.) are priced based on the fluctuating market, and dual wood case orders are custom built. Please email the shop directly at rgarrett@iwu.edu to inquire about availability and cost of exotic/imported and dual woods.
